Using Social Media to Attract Customers

| June 14, 2016 | Technology

In the early days, social media was used primarily as a tool for community building. Now companies of all sizes are using LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter to promote their brands and capture leads.

According to recent research conducted by LinkedIn, 94% of business owners with a social media presence use it as a marketing tool – and 60% of small to medium-sized businesses report winning new customers through their social media efforts.

These 3 tips will help you reap the benefits of social media for your business.

Special offers

Have you ever subscribed to an e-newsletter, “liked” a page or shared a tweet for a reward? Special offers can quickly attract new traffic to your website, allowing you to capture a large number of new leads.

Promote a freebie, a birthday discount or money-saving coupon on all the social media channels – and don’t forget to mention your offer in any downloadable content on your site and on your blog.

Social media profiles

Your social media profiles tell your friends, fans and followers a bit about who you are and what you do. A well-written profile will attract potential customers and encourage them to get in touch.

Craft a 200-word profile that you can shorten or lengthen as appropriate that includes the info potential clients want to know. For instance:

  • What you do.
  • Who you work with.
  • Your qualifications.
  • Your areas of specialization.
  • Your career highlights.
  • The customers you’ve worked with.
  • Any awards you’ve received.

When honing your profiles, be sure to incorporate a few keyword phrases to help qualified leads find you more easily. (For example, “real estate agent in Saskatoon” are good keywords for someone in that occupation in that city.)

Links to your site

Each social media channel offers opportunities for you to add links to your website – be sure to take advantage of them! You can give your company a boost in search engine results by interlinking your social media profiles as well.

LinkedIn allows three links in your contact information (websites, blog) as well as social networks. Create company pages on Facebook and LinkedIn for more opportunities to link out to your web pages.

You can also link to your company websites and social media profiles from your personal Facebook page. Just be sure to make your Facebook settings public so anyone can see your links and follow them.

Consistency is important to get the best results with any social media campaign. Give these tips a try and track your results. You may decide, like many other business owners, that it’s worthwhile to hire a part-time social media manager to ensure no opportunity to connect with a customer is missed.

  • Stay active on social media! Ask a question, engage in a conversation, and always provide valuable information.
  • Use a social media management tool such as Hootsuite to search what people are saying about your business and schedule updates.
